Ioana is a certified Adult and Geriatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner. Prior to her nursing career, she completed a Master’s in Computer Science from Purdue University and worked as a Software Engineer for five years. She later discovered her love for nursing, and therefore decided to go back to school to pursue a Master’s degree in Nursing from Monmouth University. During her rotations for the RN program at Jersey Shore Medical Center, she recognized her passion and fondness for neurology. Knowing that primary care is essential before specialization, Ioana practiced primary care for adults and the geriatric population in complicated post-acute cases in the sub-acute setting. During the first year, she achieved a goal of an overall decline in the rate of hospital readmission by 60%. After her experience with primary care, she decided to pursue a career in neurology and worked for one year in general neurology in the acute and office setting.
She joined the Neurology Center for Epilepsy and Seizures in May 2023. With the team at NCES, she spends time understanding her patients’ concerns and greatly enjoys connecting with them, while figuring out solutions in collaboration with Dr. Mehta and assuring their care. She finds the time to educate herself with new literature on epilepsy and other neurological conditions, and enjoys learning the upcoming, new progress in the epilepsy field.
Outside work, Ioana enjoys spending time with her husband, two children and three rescue animals. She enjoys learning, crafting, travelling and doing outdoor activities.
